Co-fill’ is a conceptual, design led, research investigation into infill co-housing’s potential to improve suburban land and housing use, and occupant wellbeing. Co-fill proposals are targeted to house Empty Nesters and first home buyers, to encourage shared living environments for typical adulthood in New Zealand.
In 2022, changes in the Wellington Councils Proposed District Plan promoted the intensification of suburbia rather than greenfield development. Research exemplifies the potential Co-fill typologies have in utilising the council planning changes to aid the declining mental wellbeing and address housing supply in Aotearoa.
